Mexico Diving Holiday
Reefs, Cenotes and a lot of Bull
2nd to 13th February 2019
MEXICO offers some of the best and most varied diving found anywhere in the world. We have timed our trip to coincide with the best weather, bull sharks (optional) and sailfish season. Our twin centre holiday means that you can dive on the world’s 2nd largest barrier reef as well as the Cenotes, the world’s largest cavern and cave system. There are optional trips to dive with the bull sharks and snorkel with Sailfish, you can also expect to see plenty of turtles, loads of different tropical fish and possibly even a ray or two.
The crystal clear blue waters around Mexico, stunning scenery, friendly locals and unique food and drink makes this a brilliant holiday for divers and snorkellers. Mexico is amongst the TOP 10 dive destinations worldwide.
1st Stop – Cozumel
A great location as we will be staying right inside the famous National Marine Park so we can reach the best reefs in only minutes by boat. The reefs are covered in soft and hard corals which attract many colourful species of marine life including turtles, barracudas, eagle rays and possibly the odd reef shark or two. Here scuba divers can drift along the coral covered walls of the famous Cozumel Marine Park and explore the famous Palancar Caves and Palancar Garden with its excellent tunnels and swim throughs. Named by Jacques Cousteau as one of the best scuba dive spots in the world.
Stop 2 – Playa del Carmen, Riviera Maya
This is within easy reach of the Cenotes cave/cavern system. A cenote is a natural phenomenon, a sinkhole in the Earth’s surface. The Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico has an estimated 7000 cenotes and they are an ideal playground for scuba divers. With fresh clear water divers often feel like they are floating in space and the amazing contrast of blues provides a spectacular light show as the suns rays filters through the tops of the caverns. No previous cave diving experience is necessary and there are no tight swim-throughs.
The Bull Shark safari will take us to the heart of the migration area for these magnificent creatures. Measuring over 3m in length, they are the one of the largest sharks in the sea. Swimming with these gentle giants is an experience that provides happy life-long memories. There is also an optional snorkelling trip to swim amongst sailfish, one of the fastest fish in the ocean and normally only ever seen far out at sea.
To end the trip we have planned a trip to the world famous ‘Chichen Itza’, one of the new 7 wonders of the world, alternatively you can spend your day on the beach or by the pool, soaking up the sun and sipping a few magaritas.
