10 Reasons Why Europe is One of the Best Places to Scuba Dive
It might not sound quite as exotic as some of the more far-flung destinations we go to, but Europe still packs an incredible amount of dive potential into some world-renowned diving hubs. 10 top reasons to choose Europe for your scuba diving holidays include the fact that:
1. Europe Has Very Mild, Comfortable Water Temperatures
Whether you are diving off the coast of Cornwall, the Canary Islands or in the deep waters of the Adriatic Sea, you are likely to enjoy very mild water temperatures. The Mediterranean Sea is one of the warmest in the region and it just so happens to also have many of the best dive sites ever discovered.
Even Scotland’s Scapa Flow has a comfortable temperature at certain times of the year, so you can go to all of our destinations and not have to worry about the water if you are sensitive to the temperature. Warm waters are excellent for inexperienced divers who are still learning.
2. Europe Has Extremely Gentle Water Currents
Another reason why Europe is good for newly-qualified divers is that the currents are smooth, especially in Mediterranean countries. However, other calm seas where you can dive include the Adriatic off the coast of Croatia, the Aegean near Greece or Turkey, and the seas around Sardinia.
While destinations such as Tenerife are more in the Atlantic Ocean, the secluded position of the island can still provide a great dive. Tenerife and the Canary Islands also give you access to varieties of marine life that do not normally swim in waters of other European dive spots, such as whale sharks.
3. The Continent is Home to Superb Food Options
Few people will argue that Europe as a whole contains a cluster of some of the best cuisines on the planet, and if you dive in Italy, Spain or Greece then you are right amongst the cream of the crop! The vibrant and diverse food choices have options for everyone and can often be found at affordable prices.
Shore dives or day trips with a destination restaurant or bar to look forward to at the end of the day are an enticing thought for groups with non-divers, and another reason why Europe is a great place to go. Liveaboards in Europe also have incredible provisions from local suppliers.
4. Europe Has Many World-Class Cultural Sites
You will never be left wanting for an alternative activity on days off from diving, or if you are too tired and want to mix a short dive with a trip to one of the many cultural sites along Europe’s coast. The history is amazing under the water, too, with Scapa Flow also the location of the sunken German fleet.
Greece has many amazing sites that are close to the shore, which makes it simple to mix in trips to ancient ruins, but any dive destination in Europe is adjacent to something spectacular. You could also take a day trip to Florence, Barcelona, Dubrovnik, or any other places to help spice up your itinerary.
5. All European Dive Destinations Have Easy Flight Connections
It is incredibly straightforward and cost-effective to fly around the continent, and if you are arriving from further afield you can easily find many transport hubs that serve destinations worldwide. It’s so easy that we even offer weekend-only trips for cave diving in Malta in the winter.
When you book a dive holiday in Europe with us, you will take advantage of our relationships with airlines and dive tour operators for great value travel. We take care of everything with our tailor-made packages, so all you have to think about is enjoying yourself as much as possible!
