In the UK, regulations mandate that every high-pressure cylinder over 1 litre undergo regular testing. For cylinders used in SCUBA diving, the testing intervals and procedures are particularly stringent.
Cylinder Testing Locations
You can drop your scuba, air-gun and high pressure cylinders to be tested at any of these locations:
Oyster Diving Shop, Brighton
- Monday to Friday 9.30am to 5pm
- Maritime House, Basin Road North, Brighton, Sussex BN41 1WR
Mercers Lake, Surrey
- Please call us to check when are next there, but generally we are there every other weekend and occasionally mid-week.

Old Windsor, Berkshire
- We are there every other Saturday and drop off and collection time would be 12pm

- We are here every other Sunday and the drop off / collection time is 9am
- Weald Way, Caterham, Kent CR3 6EJ
Soho, London
- We are Marshall Street Leisure Centre every Tuesday evening and the drop off / collection time is 6.30pm
- Marshall Street Leisure Centre, Soho, London, W1F 7EL.

Mandatory Testing Intervals and Procedures
All high-pressure cylinders, regardless of their application, require periodic testing:
- SCUBA Cylinders: These must undergo testing every 2.5 years. The type of test alternates between a hydrostatic test and a visual inspection, depending on the previous test and the cylinder’s specifications.
- Surface-Only Cylinders e.g. Air Guns: Cylinders designed exclusively for surface use, which are not intended to go underwater, require testing every 5 years. These cylinders are always subjected to hydrostatic testing.

- Internal and External Shot Blasting: Removes corrosion and prepares the cylinder surface for repainting.
- Re-painting: Restores the cylinder’s protective coating, extending its service life.
- Twinset Assembly: For divers using twin cylinders, we provide professional assembly services.

How Long Does It Take to Get a Cylinder Serviced
