Friday Night Fun Dive, London

Friday Night Dives at Mercers Lake
Looking for something different to do on a Friday night? This summer, Oyster Diving is launching a series of relaxed evening dives at Mercers Lake, giving certified divers the chance to wind down after a busy week with a chilled guided dive, good company, and a cold drink on the terrace overlooking the lake.
Instead of heading straight home after work, come and enjoy a peaceful summer evening underwater. We’ll meet at 6pm, kit up, take a gentle guided dive around the lake, then finish the evening with a drink, a chat, and views across the water as the sun goes down.
Whether you’re looking to keep your skills fresh, get more UK diving under your belt, meet other divers, or simply do something fun and memorable on a Friday night, our Mercers Lake evening dives are a great way to start the weekend.
Evening scuba diving near London
Mercers Lake is one of the best places for scuba diving near London and the South East. Set within Mercers Country Park in Surrey, the lake is a former sand quarry that has been transformed into a watersports and diving centre.
The site is surrounded by green woodland and is home to a wide range of wildlife above and below the surface. Divers can often enjoy clear water, an underwater forest, and sightings of perch, pike, bream and large carp.
It’s also easy to reach after work, located between the M25 and M23 with access from London and Gatwick Airport. The nearest train stations are Merstham and Redhill, both with direct links from London Victoria.

What to expect
This is designed to be a relaxed, enjoyable evening rather than a full-on training day. You’ll meet the Oyster Diving team at 6pm, receive a full briefing, get kitted up, and head into the water for a gentle guided dive around Mercers Lake.
All dives will be led by a qualified PADI Instructor or Divemaster, so you can simply enjoy the experience, explore the lake, and make the most of a Friday evening underwater. Night diving at Mercers Lake is only permitted under the supervision of a Divemaster or higher, with enhanced briefings, buddy procedures, and mandatory torches.
After the dive, we’ll head to the terrace for a cold drink overlooking the lake – the perfect way to finish the week and ease into the weekend.

Who can join?
These Friday evening dives are open to certified divers.
To take part, you must:
- Hold a recognised scuba diving certification
- Have been diving within the last 12 months
- Be comfortable diving in UK conditions
- Bring your certification card and logbook
- Complete the required PADI medical and liability forms
- Use a suitable dive torch for the evening dive
If you haven’t dived for more than 12 months, we recommend booking a PADI ReActivate refresher before joining one of our evening dives.
Do I need to be a qualified Night Diver?
No. You don’t need to already hold the PADI Night Diver certification to join these guided evening dives, provided you meet the entry requirements above. The dives probably won’t be in the dark due to the sunset times during Summer.!
However, if you would like to build your confidence, learn proper night diving techniques, and gain a recognised PADI speciality, the PADI Night Diver certification is available on request.
This is a great option if you want to feel more comfortable diving in low light, learn how to use torches and signals properly, improve your navigation, and open up a whole new world of diving after dark.
For a true diving in the dark, join our annual Halloween Night Dive.
