10-14th September 2015

zenobia-wreck-diving-holidau

For our summer break this year we have decided to go to 1 of the top 5 wreck dives in the world, and The Times named it one of the top 10 dives in the world.

The Zenobia was a 178m long ferry that was on it’s way from Sweden to Syria. On board was 104 lorries and over £200m worth of cargo. When the boat started taking on water in Larnaca Harbour they toed it out 1.5 km off shore in case the worst happened. On 7th June 1980 the worst (or best for us divers) did happen and it sank to the sea bed.

It now lies in 42m of water but dur to it’s sheer size the top of the wreck is at 17m so is accessible to all diving qualifications. To top it off visibility is often in excess of 30m.

Inside the wreck the lorries still lie in their racks and some of the cargo can still be seen. Outside large schools of fish take refuge for divers to enjoy.

We aim to complete 2 dives each day on the Zenobia, assuming you are qualified to the correct depth:

Dive 1: Orientation dive. This is from our own shot that is attached to the wreck at the bow, all around the outside of the Bridge, Restaurant, and Lifeboats and depending on gas down to part of the cargo.

Dive 2: Drop in at the stern shot down to the top prop around the back loading doors right into the cargo wreckage and working our way up towards our shot with a penetration through Accommodation.

Dive 3: Off our shot, penetration into Crew’s Accommodation onto Crew’s Day Room and Captain’s Accommodation and then into the Bridge and Restaurant.

Dive 4: Off our shot into the Upper Cargo Deck with option of turning into Accommodation for a full penetration back to the shot.

Dive 5: Off our shot, into Restaurant then figure of eight dive which combines Accommodation and Upper Car Deck using the lift shaft as the crossover point to get from one to the other.

Dive 6: Off the mid line, Middle Car Deck from the mid to the stern and back looking at the lorries hanging and the forklift at the rear.
