Celebrity Scuba Divers

The world of diving attracts people from all walks of life and is becoming an ever more popular sport.

There are many famous divers so we thought you might like to see a list of our favorite ‘Celebrity Scuba Divers’:

Prince William – Prince William did his first Open Water dive in Thailand. “I love Scuba diving, I have always wanted to dive the Barrier Reef.”

Jessical Biel – Actress Jessica Biel has successfully completed a PADI Deep Dive after obtaining her underwater certification.   “I got an advanced certification because i love scuba diving. You can go around 100 feet and a little bit deeper. You learn how to use a compass underwater in case you get lost. When you’re down there it’s so peaceful. No one’s talking to you, no one’s bothering you. It’s just you and the fishes.” “I know i’ve been MIA (missing in action), but i just complete my advanced diving course with PADI” – Twitter Jessica (29/06/2012)         “When I was thirteen i learned to dive for a TV show i did called ‘The new adventures of flipper’ i grew up in CA where the water is so cold that diving isn’t something ou do if you’re a regular teenage girl. But i love it immediately, i was fearless.”

Tiger Woods – One of the world’s wealthiest and most famous athletes, Tiger woods, arrived in Belize shortly after the British Open gold tournament in Scotland, boarded a private jet and headed for the luxury of Cayo Espanto Resort. Shortly after arriving, Tiger and his friends headed to the reef to go scuba diving. Tiger, has now been a very serious diver for the past 3 years and has been diving all over the world.    “The waters were incredible! I have been diving in many places and Belize is definitely top notch. The blue hole is spectacular. The water was so clear everywhere we went.” After diving up and down the reef in front of Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker, Tiger said, “The diving near San Pedro was really impressive. Hol Chan is a very special place with the sharks and rays, and the San Pedro have done a great job taking care of it.”

James Cameron – The first human and most famous film director to reach 6.8-mile-deep (11 kilometers deep) undersea valley solo, Cameron arrived at the bottom with the tech to collect scientific data and specimens.      “I learned to scuba dive in a pool. It wasn’t until i moved to California that i ever even scuba dived in the ocean. But i just loved it. I loved this idea that there was this alien atmosphere right here on planet earth. I knew that i was never going to be an astronaut and visit another star system or land on another planet, but i knew i could explore an alien world right here.”

Lauren Hutton – Lauren was the world’s first supermodel – fashion’s first million dollar face. She started started scuba diving in 1965 off the island of Cozumel. Lauren has recently been diving with Humpback Whales in the Republic’s Silver Banks in the Atlantic Ocean.    “She’s (the whale) the size and weight of a freight train, and moves with such easy, pure sexy grave.”     “You felt emotion through the water, watching mother and calves continually in touch, playing, nuzzling.”

Tom Hanks – He learned to scuba dive for the film mermaid comedy ‘Splash’. He has recently taken her son to the small island of Antiparos near Greece, so they can both scuba dive together.

Ang Lee – Lee completed his scuba diving certification in Ambergris Caye, Belize. He was accompanied by his two sons, Mason and Haan who also took the course and became certified divers as well. After receiving his full certification, Lee along with PADI staff instructors visited Hol Chan Marine Reserve for a supreme night dive.

Gordon Ramsay – Gordon doesn’t just dive for his own enjoyment, but also dives to get the freshest of meals, he often catches Oysters, Crabs & Krabi when he divers. He’s also done an Ice Dive and has dived all over the world.     “I love diving by myself, uninterrupted, where no one can reach me in their stupid BlackBerry’s or chase me down to find out if my teeth have been whitened.”

Kate Moss – Kaye has been snorkeling before and has dived a bit, and was keen to get her diving qualification. However she became nervous when a school of tropical fish swam past her.     “When a school of tropical fish swam past, Kate got a bit terrified by one of the bigger, grey ones.”  So intead of going back under the water she intended to spend the rest of her break on the Luxury yacht relaxing with pals while sipping champagne in the sun.

Justin Timberlake – Justin started his scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.    “We’re sitting on the boat… and the first thing i see is a shark!”  “And i just had this moment where i looked at her and was like, ‘Ahh whatever.’ and went in. It was actually really unbelievable!”

Patrick Stewart – Start scuba diving in 1993 in Los Angeles, while he was still filming some of his 178 episodes of Start Trek.    “I honestly don’t know who made me do it, I’d been going though a difficult time personally and professionally and i think one of the cast suggested we sigh up for a scuba diving course.” After years of wanting to try scuba diving, it was a holiday in the Seychelles in 1986 that provided the opportunity.     “There’s nothing like being in another dimension and being able to stay under like a fish for so long.”

Buzz Aldrin – Buzz is a former American astronaut who was the second person to walk on the moon. He first went scuba diving off the coast of Tripoli, in Libya in 1953.     “I fell in love with the sport immediately. The next chance i had, i bought a tank and a regulator and my first wife and i went diving off Majorca.” “My favorite places to dive would be; The Cayman Island and Bonaire in the Dutch Antilles. There are plenty of beautiful places to dive in the Pacific too, such as Hawaii, Palau and the Marshall Island, including Kwajalein Atoll. One of my most memorable dives was in the Gulf of Aqaba, east of Sianai Peninsular in Egypt.”
