Scuba Diving Cirkewwa, Malta’s Premier Dive Site

When it comes to scuba diving in Malta, Cirkewwa stands out as the island’s most popular and diverse dive site. Located at the northern tip of Malta, near the Gozo ferry terminal, Cirkewwa Marine Park is a protected area teeming with underwater life, stunning topography, and wrecks that appeal to divers of all experience levels.
Cirkewwa is only a few minutes walk from Paradise Bay Resort, making this resort one of the best places to stay on Malta!
A Protected Marine Park
Cirkewwa is officially designated as a Marine Protected Area, meaning fishing and anchoring are restricted to help preserve the rich biodiversity. The result? An abundance of marine life including groupers, octopus, moray eels, scorpionfish, bream, and barracudas. During the warmer months, lucky divers might also spot tuna and amberjacks cruising through the blue.

Underwater Attractions
What truly sets Cirkewwa apart is the variety of dive sites available from one shore entry point. Here’s what you can expect:
The Rozi Wreck
One of Malta’s most iconic wreck dives, the Rozi is a former tugboat scuttled in 1992 to create an artificial reef. Sitting upright at around 36 metres, the wreck is easily accessible and often surrounded by large schools of fish. It’s a fantastic site for photography and a must for wreck enthusiasts.

The P29 Patrol Boat
Just a short swim from the entry point lies the P29, a former patrol boat scuttled in 2007. This wreck rests at about 34 metres and is known for its impressive structure, open swim-throughs, and the marine life that now calls it home. Both wrecks are excellent training sites for deep and wreck specialties.

Arch & Reef Dives
Cirkewwa also boasts natural formations like The Arch, a beautiful swim-through formed by a collapsed cave. Covered in sponges and home to shy groupers, this area is great for wide-angle photos and gives a real sense of underwater adventure.
Nearby reef dives offer a gentler profile for beginner divers or those wanting a more relaxing experience. Expect colourful topography, sandy patches perfect for spotting rays, and overhangs ideal for spotting nocturnal marine life during the day.
Cave and Tunnel Systems
More advanced divers can explore small caves and tunnels in the area, adding a bit of thrill to the dive. These formations are safe to explore with a torch and proper training, making Cirkewwa ideal for divers looking to expand their skills and confidence.

Accessibility & Facilities
Cirkewwa is easily accessed by car, and there are purpose-built dive entry points with ladders and platforms. The dive site is well-equipped with parking, shaded areas, and even nearby kiosks for refreshments between dives.
Dive Conditions
With generally good visibility (often 20–30 metres), minimal current, and depths ranging from 5m to 40m+, Cirkewwa offers something for everyone—from beginner divers to technical enthusiasts. The site is diveable year-round, though spring through autumn offers the warmest water and best conditions.
