Have you ever seen someone lose their dive mask or fin when they jumped in the water? Has anyone ever asked you to help them recover their keys or a small anchor lost over the side of the boat? Oceans, lakes and rivers are dynamic environment and sometimes things get lost.
The course is designed to teach basic search and recovery techniques to help find small to medium sized objects lost underwater. Search and recovery skills can also make diving more fun. Finding and recovering an object feels like treasure hunting!
You will need to be at least a PADI (Junior) Advanced Open Water Diver who is at least 12 years old.
To complete the course there is some basic theory and 4 open water dives.
You will learn to:
- plan a search operation based on facts gathered about a lost object prior to the dive
- locate objects using a variety of search patterns, compass & navigation
- improve underwater communication
- use underwater slates
- make marine knots
- recover small to medium sized objects with the use of a lift bag
As with the other PADI Specialty courses, the Search & Recovery Diver course counts as 1 of your 5 specialties you need to attain your Master Scuba Diver certification.
