Exploring the Wreck of the Zenobia: A Diver's Dream

The Zenobia wreck is one of the world’s top shipwreck dives, located just off the coast of Larnaca, Cyprus. This massive Swedish ferry sank on her maiden voyage in 1980, and since then, it has become a fascinating underwater playground for scuba divers. The Zenobia lies at depths ranging from 16 to 42 meters, making it accessible for both intermediate and advanced divers, while still offering plenty of mystery and challenge for experienced wreck explorers. The ferry, which was carrying over 100 fully-loaded trucks, provides an exciting opportunity to explore different sections of the wreck, including the cargo deck, accommodation areas, and bridge. Divers can expect to see dozens of overturned trucks, machinery, and even a collection of still intact, eerily abandoned vehicles, all gradually becoming part of the reef as marine life claims the wreck. The Zenobia is now an artificial reef teeming with vibrant marine species. Divers can encounter groupers, barracudas, moray eels, and octopuses among the wreckage. The hull is covered with colourful soft corals and sponges, adding vivid contrasts against the dark, haunting structure of the ship. Adventurous divers can penetrate sections of the wreck, such as the cargo holds and control rooms, for a thrilling and immersive experience. What makes the Zenobia wreck particularly unique is its size and accessibility; it's a wreck that has something to offer every diver. Whether you're interested in exploring the intricate cargo areas, capturing stunning underwater photos, or simply admiring the marine life that has made this ship its home, the Zenobia promises an unforgettable dive that combines history, adventure, and the thrill of discovery.
